We’re excited to have you join our Safe Space 4 All Scheme!

The objective of the scheme it to demonstrate to everyone in our local communities that they are included, welcome and safe here.

We ask all organisations participating in the Safe Space 4 All Scheme to agree to follow our code of conduct.

This document represents the minimum standards we can expect from the organisations involved in the scheme, including ourselves.

Together, we can show that we are a community that wants everyone to feel that they are included, welcome and safe.

Foster a Safe Environment

Make sure your space is free from any symbols, behaviour or paraphernalia which could be reasonably considered intimidating or likely to cause offence to someone because of their sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, race, age, disability, beliefs or other personal characteristics.

Challenge unacceptable behaviours, which include anyone:

  • Using offensive language related to homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, interphobia, bigotry, misogyny, race or religion.
  • Harassing someone with unwanted behaviour.
  • Physically or sexually assaulting someone.
  • Making derogatory remarks about someone’s body, manner, or sexual activities.
  • Intimidating, threatening, or victimising
  • Discriminating against someone due to their perception of another’s sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, race, age, disability, or other personal characteristics.

Be Actively Inclusive

  • Provide help and support to anyone that asks.
  • Use inclusive language respecting other’s identity, by not making assumptions about anyone’s gender identity, sexual preference, background or ability.
  • Make your organisation accessible to all and have a plan in place to address any barriers to access where possible.
  • Do not tolerate any form of homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, interphobia, bigotry, misogyny, ableism, or ageism but actively challenge discriminatory behaviours and opinions.
  • Respect how people choose to identify.
  • Do not share someone’s personal information without their permission.

Once you become aware of any unacceptable behaviour, please:

  • Warn the offender that such behaviour is not tolerated.
  • Remove the offender from the establishment if necessary.
  • Contact the police if the situation warrants it.
  • Ban the offender from future attendance if appropriate.
  • If the behaviour was directed at someone, check in with the victim to ensure they are okay and help them connect with local support services if needed.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. Your commitment to these guidelines makes a big difference!
